For 2011, Motor Muster commemorated the 100-year anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 with a special racing presentation that included many classic racecars.   This year, there were over 40 military vehicles on display, ranging from WWII Jeeps to Viet Nam era Mutts and M35s.   There was also a battle reenactment that drew a large crowd of spectators.   Another feature of this show is always the Pass-In-Review Parade, which is held for, and narrated by an expert for every vehicle category throughout the weekend.   Of course, the other highlight this year was the World War II encampment at Cotswold Cottage.   Motor Muster is a very popular event, and the Arsenal of Democracy Motor Pool looks forward to doing it again next year on Father's Day weekend.   See pictures of club vehicles on display, in the Pass-In-Review, and in the reenactment on the Photo Page.

[Grosse Pointe Shores Centenial Parade]
In July, Grosse Pointe Shores celebrated its 100th birthday with a weekend long celebration.   Festivities included a Detroit Symphony Orchestra concert at the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House followed by fireworks on Friday night, the dedication of a new field house on Saturday, and a parade on Sunday.   The Parade began at the Ford House, and went south toward Vernier, (8 Mile), where it looped around and ended up in Osius Municipal Park.   Once there, the vehicles were put on static display, and the ceremony began.   See pictures of all the club vehicles in the parade on the Photo Page.

AODMP Helps the City of Warren Observe Veterans Day
[John Lind and Keith Nattrass at the Warren City Hall event with John's Jeep. ]
On Wednesday, November 10, the city of Warren celebrated Veterans Day with a Korean War Veterans Tribute, and asked the AODMP to display some vehicles to set the mood.   Happening the same day, and coincidently right across the street, the GM Tech Center along with the UAW was holding their own Veterans Day ceremony, and also asked for vehicles.   A contingent of AODMP volunteers traveled to Warren and dispersed between the two locations to help the organizations celebrate the holiday in style.

John Lind and Keith Nattrass supported the Warren City Hall event displaying John's Jeep and Harley-Davidson.   They were recognized by the Mayor of Warren, James Fouts, and Parks & Rec. Director Henry Bowman, (at right), and were also warmly received by the crowd.   Some of the veterans even asked to have their picture taken with two.   With the close of the cerimony, it was time to head across the street to the Tech Center, and meet up with the rest of the AOD members.

The GM/UAW Veterans Day event was held in a very modernistic totally round auditorium, and which of course, being an automotive facility, allowed the club members vehicles to be displayed inside, as a back drop for the ceremony.   On hand at the Tech Center were Bill Thatcher with his M38, Chuck Chapman and his Jeep, and Terry Pitts who brought his newly acquired M37 Dodge and a 105mm artillery piece.   Also outside, mainly because it was too large to fit inside, John Lind displayed his GMC CCKW.   He noted that it was only fitting to have the GMC at the Tech Center.   Standing guard outside with the CCKW was a current model M2A3 Bradley, brought by BAE Systems who uses it to display their Fire Support Sensor System.   The event honored all veterans from all braches and time periods, and featured a number of other displays including a series of enlarged wartime photos, and a 10ft wooden RC battleship.

AOD & Defense Components Show National Pride

In October, we were contacted by Mr. Glen Charest from Defense Components of Detroit, a company located in Auburn Hills, who wanted to express his national pride and support for veterans by having pictures taken of his facility adorned with olive drab lawn ornaments.   The AODMP was only too happy to help make his desires come true.   Defense Components of Detroit, is a "Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business", that is a manufacturer of prototype and limited production CNC machined components for the Defense, Aerospace, Power, Oil/Biofuel and Medical Industries.   Thanks to John Lind, Zack and Keith Nattrass, Dave McConnell and Rich Pilon for taking time out of their weekend to help with this project.
